LOUISE IS SHAVING HER HEAD FOR THE NHS!!!
So I was on my nephew's virtual Benidorm stag do last night!!
We were all dressed up like we were living the dream and we got rather tipsy!
I thought it was a great idea, at the time, to set up a JustGiving page to raise money for our local NHS trust... by shaving my head!!!!
I woke in the night, having had a bad dream, that I had lost my hair and was relieved it was still there. Then I recalled what I had done... so I checked my JustGiving page, and sure enough there it was, with DONATIONS!!!
Oh well its only hair. It will grow, and on reflection I thought, I need to do this for so many reasons. A very dear friend of mine (a nurse) and godmother to my son Finley has spent 4 weeks in a coma, on a ventilator with COVID-19. Hopefully she is starting to make progress and becoming more alert everyday. Her loving sister who is also a nurse is currently in hospital with COVID-19. My step father has Alzheimer's and is being isolated due to cases of COVID-19 in his care home, where my mum works.
Then there is my very personal reason for wanting to support our amazing NHS.
Stoke Mandeville Hospital holds a very special place in my heart. Supporting us as a family when our little boy Courtney Scarlett was born with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy. At only 5 months old Courtney was listed for a heart transplant. Unfortunately 3 months later, due to poor heart function, he developed Pulmonary Hypertension. Resulting in the need for a Heart and Lung transplant. Due to Courtney's young age and lack of availability of organs, he was taken off the transplant list. He spent 4 weeks in an induced coma on full life support but fought through the odds eventually able to return home. Courtney passed away on the 4th December 2005 aged 14 months. Courtney's heart valves saved the lives of a baby boy and a baby girl XX
Right now staff across BHT are extremely busy and working very hard delivering care to those who need it most. Many are working in unfamiliar surroundings, longer shifts, extra days and are having to spend a lot of time away from home and their families to ensure every patient receives the care they deserve.
